Permasalahan khusus yang dihadapi negara kami, terutama pada Daerah Kota Bukittinggi salah satunya adalah masalah kemiskinan. Berdasarkan penelitian saya pada akhir 2015 lalu menunjukan bahwa capaian target penurunan tingkat kemiskinan di Kota Bukittinggi masih jauh dari apa yang menjadi target capaian visi misi walikota pada saat itu. Hal ini disebabkan oleh belum optimalnya upaya pemerintah daerah dalam pengentasan kemiskinan, program pengentasan kemiskinan yang tidak tepat sasaran,lemah nya perencanaan, terbatasnya anggaran dan lemahnya pengawasan.
